Honors French IV is a course designed to develop proficiency in the target language. In order to reach this ultimate goal, working on French culture is one of the tools we use. This work is organized in a socio-cultural perspective. The students practice the four skills of the foreign language learning: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. The students have to create an interactive newsletter about their historical figure, displaying articles, pictures and sound. Finally, the students present their work to the group in an oral presentation, in class.

The work consists in two parts:

  • The presentational mode is an interactive newsletter, using Glogster.com.
  • The students will do research on the Internet about 8 French historical figures.
  • After writing a short biography (200 words), they use their biography to set up an interview with their personage.
  • They will use Garage Band to record their voice.
  • They add 2 fake commercials corresponding to their time period.
  • They do research and write titles about 3 famous persons living at the same time as their main personage.
  • The students have to create an interactive newsletter about their historical figure, displaying articles, pictures and sound.
  • Finally, the students present their work to the group in an oral presentation, in class.

The second part is a written part: the girls need to write:
  • 200 words essay about the person’s biography,
  • 2 commercials respecting the products we could find at the period of time of their historical figure, using imperative mode and persuasive discourse
  • Interview of their person, practicing questioning and answering tasks
  • 3 title about 3 other historical figures living at the same time as their main personage.
